Have you ever heard of the quote “Nobody ever said life was easy…they just promised that it would be worth it”? Do you feel like it applies to you? Well, it applies to everyone. Nothing is ever handed to someone, and if someone says they have, then they really haven’t accomplished or worked for anything yet. Everybody has to work hard and endure stress to make it somewhere. However, that stress can keep people from doing and trying the things they love. Luckily, if you keep trying, you’ll persevere and the view will be breathtaking. Santiago, the main character in The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, represents being beat up by life, and ending up being better and stronger than before. This quote is significant to the episode and as a whole for very similar reasons. The point of the book where this line is read, Santiago has finally reached the pyramids of Egypt. The whole novel leads the reader to this moment. Readers feel a sense of accomplishment after reading Santiago’s journey and seeing him finally achieve his dream. At this section Santiago “thanked God for making him believe in his Personal Legend, and for leading him to meet a king, a merchant, an Englishman, and an alchemist”(160). Santiago has gone through so many obstacles and there were many times when he tried to turn back. However, he kept moving forward and was able to achieve what he was destined to achieve. Everything that happened in The Alchemist led up to this point. The plot of the book includes Santiago dreaming a dream about treasure in the pyramids of Egypt. The story showcases his journey of struggles and hardships to achieve the path to his treasure. In the end, he pursued his personal legend. He could’ve given up, but instead he kept going.
