Hidden Like Anne Frank: 14 True Stories of Survival is a nonfiction novel, written by Marcel Prins, about fourteen different Jews who risked their lives tremendously and left behind everything they knew to disappear and go into hiding during World War ll to escape Nazi persecution. All of the stories are first-person accounts that tell what it was really like to go into hiding during the war. Every Jew in this book came from the Netherlands, and they all tell their story of having to leave their families and lives behind; some stayed with relatives or complete strangers and some were only toddlers while some were teenagers. One story in the book tells of a young girl who did not have a hiding spot arranged, so she would be rolled up in carpet and propped against the wall. Each of these stories are equally interesting and unique. One girl was taken to Auschwitz where she actually saw Anne Frank, who happened to be one of her old school friends in Amsterdam. Another young boy stayed at more than forty-two different addresses during the duration of the war. All of these people had to change addresses a number of times; sometimes their house would be raided, sometimes a neighbor would be a member of the NSB and it was unsafe, or sometimes they wished to hide close to their family members. But, all of these people got to see the day of liberation and while they rejoiced it in it, they had to live with the grief of hardly any of their family members surviving. In conclusion, Hidden Like Anne Frank is a very compelling novel of fourteen one-of-a-kind tales from a Jew’s perspective of what it was like to go into hiding to escape Nazi imprisonment during World War ll; it was certainly an eye-opening
