In the beginning of the story, the kids were very rude towards Margot but by the end that all changed. Bradbury painted a very vivid scene in the reader's head, the text stated, “They walked slowly down the hall in the sound of cold rain. They turned through the doorway to the room in the sound of the storm and thunder, lightning on their faces, blue and terrible. They walked over to the closet door slowly and stood by it.” The reason Bradbury wrote this piece is to build suspense and make the reader anxious. In addition, this shows how jealousy changes a person. In the beginning the kids are very impolite to Margot and tease her a lot, but clearly that wasn’t their normal selves. The reason is, the kids are being so caught up in their jealousy they didn’t realize what they were doing was wrong, but, only until they came back inside did they realize that they locked Margot in a closet. The reason they take so long to get Margot out of the closet is because they are ashamed of themselves and can’t believe what they have done. Their harsh actions really hurt Margot and left her feeling miserable, since they took away the only thing that Margot really loved. Jealousy is very dangerous and could leave someone hurt, because when somebody is jealous they usually aren’t aware of what they are doing or saying, and so they might say something that they don’t mean or wouldn’t normally
