Upon commencing my first year as a student here, I found myself delighted at the immensity of the differences between my old elementary school and Forest Heights. However, over time, the euphoric feeling of my new found freedom as a high school student has gradually disappeared. Sure, there are a lot of things about FHCI that gives the school its well-deserved

The price of a single laptop compared to the cost of multiple textbooks is considerably less on the school district’s wallet. Laptops are in fact more money efficient towards the school’s board, they can be reused year after year, benefiting a bunch of students. Having the ability to store everything to the cloud makes teachers save huge numbers of trips to the printer, every teacher will print significantly less when this change occurs. Don’t you hate when your binder is full of unuseful worksheets? Laptops will solve this issue for Billy and for many other students. The endless sheets of paper will vanish from the student’s lives making their lives paperless. A textbook ranges between 300 to 500 pages and millions of copies are printed every new publishing release. Laptops will stop this waste of paper and will truly save a lot of the precious trees in our environment that are rapidly disappearing. As well, this will maintain a better future for Billy and us, who will struggle in the near future from the global warming predictions. Saving paper will allow us to contribute in benefiting our environment. Textbooks usually cost around a hundred dollars or two, yet the copies will ultimately get outdated and the money that was spent towards them would be gone. The replacement of textbooks towards laptops will be effective for the school’s budget, the innocent environment and for the student’s unpredictable

Even though inflation, the rising material costs, and shipping costs are making the price of textbooks rise sharply to cover the cost of production, it is evident the prices of college textbooks are being artificially inflated to make the publishers outrageous amounts of money while making it harder for lower income students to afford books. Because college textbooks have increased in price over 1000 percent since 1977, some students are now paying almost 1000$ on books a year. Furthermore out of 79 cents for each dollar spent on a text book the author only gets 11 cents, the remainder goes to the publisher. These and other fact show that textbook costs are rising out of control and something needs to be done about…

If every student begins to buy new textbooks, there will be a surplus of used textbooks. Publishers will definitely have a large profit, but the number of wasted textbooks will be large also. Several used textbooks are in almost brand new condition, and if students could pay cheaper to get the same product, they probably will not buy the more expensive product. The Committee’s plan for making textbooks cheaper, while students usually follow it, does not work. “The fatal flaw in that proposal (and similar ones made by many state legislatures) is used books are the cause, not the cure for, high textbook prices,” which shows how the committee’s proposal is the cause for high textbook prices (Granof 206).…

Personal computers are something that everybody needs and if we were given chromebooks then it would terminate the problem of not having the ability to work at home and would extend the student’s potential of learning by a large amount. According to www.theatlantic.com if a student does have access to computers and internet at home "They’re being denied equal access to knowledge and information that are part of education in the 21st century." Saving money is also an ability that chromebooks have. Instead of shopping every year and also during the school year for school supplies, chromebooks get rid of the problem of having to waste money on cheap quality things. Things such as binders, textbooks, pencils and erasers etc.…

“There can be infinite uses of the computer and of new age technology, but if teachers themselves are not able to bring it into the classroom and make it work, then it fails.” That quote from Nancy Kassebaum explains just how important it is for technology to be integrated into the learning process. On the other hand, if we were to remove textbooks from the classroom will not make it easier to learn but rather more difficult. Many small and large schools have already switched over to tablets for all of their school work. Muller Road Middle School of South Carolina has gone paperless and Burlington High School of Massachusetts has pledged to stop buying books.…
