My older brother who suffers from Schizophrenia is unable to live a normal life because of this disability. Through bad choices in his life, which I will not mention out of respect, he increased his chances of developing this mental disorder. Schizophrenia has been a constant battle for my family and I to cope with and understand. He was diagnosed as a Schizophrenic at the age of seventeen and I remember as a child watching and hearing family members quarrel with my him, which would at times get physical in an attempt to pacify him. The intent of this paper is to first understand what Schizophrenia is and to secondly examine the psychological effects of Schizophrenia and to finally give treatments for this disorder.
The psychological disorder of Schizophrenia is classified as a psychotic, due to it’s anguishing and stressful nature on cognitive thinking. Cognitive thinking is the ability to comprehend and discern things naturally and normally. Schizophrenia in this case completely dilutes the ability to think rationally and in turn debilitates the sufferer from making normal choices because of disorderly thinking patterns.
