No other clothing companies does what American Apparel do. Other companies put random models on their ads, But American Apparel makes sure we have an connection withe them. When creating a connection it also created a sense of familiarity. The position the models are placed appear to be very uncomfortable, but the models look confident. American Apparel have been doing ads like this one since the late 90’s; and are not planing to stop. When ads include pathos they most likely also include ethos. We can see them working together. The model in the American apparel ad used her credibility and the bond created in the paragraph to sell the leggings she had on. The model created the bond when she wrote about what she values. The credibility became apparent when she informed us all about her without holding back details. Abercrombie and Fitch ad contains a group of attractive people having a great time. That image gives off the feeling of enjoyment. The ad also tells a story within that captured moment.The women are used and seen as a sexual object. They’re trying to sell the image of a great story. They use attractive models and put them on the beach doing sexual gestures. That image tells a story by creating a background. By creating a setting they separate themselves from their competition. The setting tells a lot without using actual words, like where their at, what they are doing, and the time of day. Abercrombie and Fitch use ethos and pathos and create trust with the consumer. The story is in the setting and they way the models appear to look make it seem like that photo was taken at random. In the story being sold they used both women and men which is a different approach than other companies who just include women models. The ad uses the sexual appeal of the Male and female model to create a story without using words. American Apparel and Abercrombie and Fitch both use some of the same rhetorical strategies to sell their product. They both use sex appeal to attract men and women, but Abercrombie and fitch has more of a background. The Abercrombie and fitch ad is not as scandalous, but also receive negative feedback.
