Response To Lean On Me By Bill Withers

Improved Essays
The song “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers really reminds me of the last week of 8th grade. It was the song we sang in choir for the promotion. This song brings back the good vibes and memories my friends and I have had that year. One of the lines in the song that stuck out the most was “I'll be your friend I'll help you carry on” this really shows how much I will be there for my friends no matter what the circumstances are, I mean unless they screw me over.

Für Elise by Beethoven is the song that expresses who I am. When I started playing piano, I got frustrated that most of my family had a natural talent while I didn't. My father talked to me and gave me one of the most important lessons of my life: "Practice makes perfection, if you want something, insist until you get it". After playing piano as a hobby, at age 17 I decided to take my skills to the next level by taking piano lessons at college and I challenged myself to first learn how to play Für Elise. It wasn't easy, but practice made perfection.…

Listening to the selections I found they all generally appeal to me though others have more of an immediate preference than others. A genuine love for music creates an appreciation for all genres. One can respect or acknowledge the environment from which it was produced, its purpose, and the skill of the musician(s). I particularly became fond of The Andrew Sisters after experiencing the song “The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”. I recall hearing it from a television commercial vaguely, but it was a completely new thing to see and hear them perform it.…

In Cole Dowdy's essay "Somebody to Lean On", he talks about everyone needing someone in the world no matter who they are. In his essay, he said, "right then, I came to believe that everyone needs someone to lean on. Whether it's a mother and a child, two inseparable friends, a husband and a wife, or even a dog and its owner. Everyone needs someone to rely on in this life. We cannot live life alone."…

For teenagers a friend’s death is life changing and this is because: “When an adolescent dies, for the close friend something in them can die as well. Sharing so much, caring so much, confiding so much, the loss of this valued relationship leaves their world sadly diminished. “I don’t have anyone to tell my secrets to anymore. I have no one who knows me so well. I have no one that close I can call.…

In Paul McHenry Roberts “How to say nothing in 500 words”, I was caught up by the colorfully words strategy. As I understand by his explanation using colorful words does not mean using literary colors to pen down words rather to get depth and meaning out of the message that is to be conveyed. Using these words would in turn help the reader formulate better the scene that the writer is trying to convey. This is an effective way of author to audience communication I personally find this one of the most important strategies that any writer should follow because, being a writer the main purpose that we are writing for is to get our thoughts, opinions our visions across to our chosen audience just the way we formed it in our head.…

I choose “stickwitu” as my falling in love song because I love all that is said within this song. This song is beautiful all around not only is the beat amazing but also the lyrics. Throughout high school people are in relationships and tend to just break up and throw all their love away as if love is not even valuable anymore. I know that i'm young and will meet many people along the road but once I found someone who appreciates me and loves me for me i will stick with him.…

Listening to music can make people feel many emotions and transport them to different times in life. Two strong emotional songs the upbeat “Long Black Train’ by Josh Turner and the mellow “Broken Wing” by Martina McBride both deal with hard times like overcoming depression through faith. They are both slow songs and have a very strong beat. “Long Black Train” is however more upbeat and a more positive outcome.…

The song I chose is “Surfin’ U.S.A.”, is characterized by the Beach Boys. I chose this song because of how laid back the tune sounds and makes me want to relax. It’s relaxing because the song reminds me of the beach and the sounds of the waves. In the song it talks about how they will be gone for the summer and to tell the teacher they have gone surfing. The summer always reminds me of the beach and all the surfers in the water.…

“You Got A Friend In Me” by Randy Newman. This describes my younger life because I use to love to watch Toy Story a lot when I was younger, even though it was made 5 years before I even born, it is still my favorite Disney movie. One thing when I was young that came to mind when I hear this is many other good moments that are even in the newer movies. When I watch it now, it shows me how much I have grown up and changed, like how Andy has gotten bigger and moved on to college and left all his toys behind. This also reminds of many other good childhood memories such like all the other shows that were on when I was about 8 and how much everything has changed.…
