The only way you’ll know we’re slightly Irish is by asking. My mother and sister do have the stereotypical red hair of the Irish. In Ireland today, however, brown, black, and blond hair are usually more common than red hair. Most Irish people have very pale skin no matter the hair color. The Irish usually have squared chins, a trait my sister, mom, and I share. Most Irish have long noses and foreheads that slope out on the brow bone, traits we do not share. Living in Florida, my family cannot dress like the Irish do because of the major difference in temperature. We have to wear light fabrics in contrast to the heavy fabrics of Ireland to cope with our warm temperatures. My immediate family is not Roman Catholic or Anglicans, so we do not have the same practices of a typical Irish family. I have never eaten true Irish food cooked by my mother before. We don’t celebrate the same holidays and St. Patrick ’s Day is overlooked in my house, except for the traditional pinching that everyone does. Since I don’t have a lot of experience with Irish culture, I would love to travel to Ireland and really experience what my heart feels so close
