In Yann Martel’s Life of Pi,the main character pi,his journey to Canada is transformed into a dreadful tragedy,as the ship sinks into the depths of the pacific ocean.With the little chance of survival,he finds support through religion because he loves god,religion brings hope to him,and he trusts in god.

‘It was natural that bereft and desperate as I was in the throes of unremitting suffering.I should turn to god’(Martel 315).For pi,there are plenty of challenge of surviving.First of all,there is the necessity of the physical survival.He must keep his body alive.This requires water and food. Unfortunately, there are both in short supply, as well as protection from the danger. Pi realized he was supposed to protect himself from the immediate threat of tiger, which called Richard Parker, but also he is aware that there are a host of dangers doing him in. For example,many things like ocean storms, sunstroke, sharks and dehydration are a pose to risk his life. However, pi never ever ever though to give up as his religion gives him strong and hope so that he can fight for these difficulties on the life boat. Pi maintains his religions beliefs while on the boat through his daily ritual prayers, which helps sustain him. Pi is faced with physical difficulty to the threat by a tiger, to cold, to dehydration and other difficulties. But pi’s desperate attempt to survive.
