Reality therapy is based on Choice theory. Choice theory is the belief that we are responsibe for our own behavior and that our behaviors are ultimatly driven by our wants and needs. Choice theory also identifies the imporatnce of feeling a sense of love and belonging. Glass finds that love and belonging is the essence of what drive our wants, needs, and actions (Corey, 2017). The amount of fullfillment for these needs varies in each person, however the sense of love and belonging is universally the most importantof all the needs. Love and belonging establishes a road for fullfillment of the other four needs. Reality therapy is used by Choice theoriest as a way to treat clients. Reality therapy establishes the WDEP system for treatment. WDEP is an ancronym that stands for wants, do, self-evaluation, and plans. The first step of the WDEP system, want, opens up a client and helps them discoever their quality world. A clients quality world expplains how their behavior is aimed at linking their exteranl world to their internal one. Often time a clients behavior is indirectly acting out to fill an internal need that a client was not aware that they were missing. Counselors help clients understand their internal wants by asking a series of questions. These questions help clients relieze that they have control over both their external and internal worlds. Once a client defines their wants, needs, and perceptions they have the ability to make goals and are ready to move onto the second phase,
