Randy Pausch's Last Lecture Analysis

Decent Essays
Have you ever thought of something you always wanted to do before you died? Randy Pausch told the world about his life in his “last lecture”. I really enjoyed the Last Lecture, because it told a story about a life that was ended shortly by cancer. Randy was a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University before his death. He thought before he passed on he needed to create a lecture named “Really achieving your Childhood Dreams”. On September 18, 2007.
Randy Pausch was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at age 47. He was still young when he passed away. When he found out about his diagnosis, he wanted to create his last lecture. So, people would know about his life and his achievements. Randy thought that doing this lecture would help his children remember their father for what he really was and wouldn’t forget him when he was gone.

His wife was named Jai. Randy’s oldest was only five years old at the time. Randy thought that his children could listen to his lecture and read his book to really remember him in the future. In Randy’s lecture, he didn’t think he was unique because he had cancer, but he’s unique because everything he achieved was inspired by his childhood dreams. His lecture was about him living and not dying. At the end of his lecture, Randy thanked his parents for allowing him to grow up with a sense curiosity and sense of charity. That was why he was a professor.
I thought that Randy Pausch’s lecture was really moving and important in so many ways. When I read this book I first thought that his lecture was just going to be about him telling everyone about his disease and that he was going to be leaving the earth. It was far from that. His lecture was about telling everyone that you should achieve your goals in life before you move on. I thought that was really important. A lot of people live in regrets a lot of their life because they don’t persevere and achieve their goals in

Dr. Ratner’s speech was extremely impactful. The story about his daughter really touched home for me. I was in a similar situation with my uncle who was diagnosed and died of AML Leukemia a few years, so I feel like I understood some aspects of his experience with his daughter quite well. I think healthcare or future healthcare provider learn a lot from experiencing a situation similar to what their patients will be. It helps put the healthcare provider in the patient’s shoes.…

In John Lederach’s (2001) article, Five Qualities of Practce in Support of Reconciliation Process, he argues that the path to forgiveness and reconciliation on a global scale is a process, not just a choice. The five qualities of practice he identifies are: 1. Reconciliation as relationship centric – here Lederach (2001) explains that reconciliation starts with the relationship not just the “issues” between those involved in the conflict. 2. Reconciliation as accompaniment – He explains when a third party becomes involved in trying to resolve a conflict (a mediator)…
