The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) emphasizes that professional ethics are the core of social work. As a result, all social worker must oblige to its basic values, ethical standards, and principles. Social work code is based on six values namely service namely dignity of the worth of the individual, integrity, competence, social justice, the centrality of human relationships. Considering the nature of work and personal goals of the individual social worker, it may be easy or hard to abide by some of the above-listed codes or values thus resulting in conflicts might be compromised. As is any other profession, integrity means being honest and having strong moral principles irrespective of the situation. One of the benefits of upholding this value is that it helps build a relationship between the social worker and his or her client. One incidence or experience where I had to defend my work integrity was during my early years when a family friend to one of my clients approached to inquire about one of my clients. He claimed that it was within his rights to make such request. However, since social work principles require one to observe confidentiality of information and treat it with utmost integrity, I refused to grant him his request. In my case, I had a friend who used to live with his uncle and had experienced neglect. As a result, I grew up hating parents who refused to accept parental responsibilities. During my internship in the child protection department, there are times when I developed a bias towards parents who had neglected their children. I often imagined that the new clients also grew up without the tender care their parents and this was not an easy experience for anyone.
