“Were the effects of the industrial revolution in Great Britain more positive or more negative?”
Everything up until the late 1700’s everything was made by hand and by hard labour. Many would work over 12 hours in a field or work with making clothing. Imagine what kind of effect a simple machine can do to a country. The effects of the industrial revolution in Great Britain with more positive than negative due the to the fact that because of the industrial revolution, work was now easier and faster than before, clothes and travel was now cheaper and at a affordable price, and overall improved the economy. Instead of of using horses and carriages the new invention of the steam powered Locomotive (train) changed the way of traveling. According to Andrew Ure, this new mode of transport many people were now able to leave their comfort zone and travel to other places because it was cheaper and more faster than an average horse. (Document 3) The effect of people being able to travel more changed the population rates in the city because many were to far out in rural areas where they would only make monthly trips to small cities. But now with the change in population many moved to the cities. Another positive effect of the industrial revolution according to Charles Knight, was that because of these new machine’s creating clothing faster and at better quality, clothes was now at a cheap price.
