Nurture. Nature is genetic factors within the child, while Nurture is environmental factors within the child's surrounding. In ED, research has shown that this theory may not be defiant, but few factors like diet, stress, heredity, or family function have influentially triggered this in some cases. ED has been overlooked by many families because symptoms from any disorder under this disability can be found in everyone, but if it occurs excessively it can overwhelm the child. This disability is divided among 6 disorders, Anxiety, Bipolar, Conduct, Eating, Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD), and Psychotic. Anxiety is divided up into many divisions, like ED. Each division is its own type of Anxiety. Example of divisions are Social Phobias, Panic disorder, Posttraumatic Stress disorder (PTSD), and many different phobias.

Accommodations should reinforce positive behavior, tolerance, and educate the child on social skills. Special Education teachers should research and be aware of this disability so they could create a state of trust in their relationship with the student. Studies have shown that a student with ED is two or more grade levels below in core classes than an average student, due to lack of communication with the teacher and lack of social skill that are found in the classroom that help succeed in their education.
