Era I Physical Body model is built on the physical side of healthcare innovation where it is thought that treatment for health and sickness should be physical using a “surgery and drugs” approach. During Era I it was thought that a patient sickness was caused by a physical ailment in the body and healing was centered on a physical treatment such as surgery or medicine. The mind and consciousness were not thought of being part of the physical body but an implementation of the brain.

There Healing Environment Committee is comprised of clinical and non-clinical staff and community volunteers and has established a number of initiatives to transform Crouse into a warmer, more inviting hospital (Crouse Hospital, n.d.). We have a variety of educational programs that are available for staff and also the community. We have workshop programs like healthy relationship, and healthy steps. Our main lobby has just been renovated it’s full of natural light and opens to an outdoor patio and garden. Paging is kept to the bare minimum and only used for calling a code. One thing that I can do to promote professional presence that I have learned in my healthcare setting is make sure that the lighting on my unit is dimmed for patients whenever possible especially during the night. Working in the ICU this is important and may be able to help in preventing ICU Psychosis.
