Also, I would like to learn about other types of activities that can be done in the class after reading poems that play with sounds. In addition, I would like to research other songs, besides the ones provided in the article, that help children learn sounds. Thus, I will read to my future students several books. I will make sure to read them books that play with language, such as Runny Babbit. In addition, I will create prop boxes for these books, which will encourage them to reenact the events and use the same or similar language from the story. Simultaneously, I will read them poetry that plays with sounds. I will try to read them several poems more than once throughout the month and each time encourage them to create their own beginnings or ends to the poem. Also, I would elongate circle time in the mornings and help them learn and sing a song that contains sound play, such as “I’ve been working on the railroad.” The article emphasis the importance of sharing this information with the parents, so children continue developing their phonological awareness at home. Therefore, I will make sure to send copies of the songs and poems, covered in class, home. By doing so, the parents will have the opportunity to practices the songs and poems with their children and further develop their phonological awareness. Lastly, I will try to have several copies of books that have sound play in my classroom’s library, so the parents can borrow them and read them to their child.
