Phlomis umbrosa is distributed in several countries of the Southeast Asia. The root of P. umbrosa has been traditionally used for the treatment of hemorrhage, bronchitis, cold, and bone fractures [6]. Previous phytochemical investigations of the genus Phlomis have shown that they contain phenolics, iridoids, flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, lignans, neolignans, diterpenoids, alkaloids, and essential oils [5–8]. The separation and determination of the active constituents in medicinal plant extracts represent a viable method to achieve standardization and quality control. However, the research on the quantification of multifarious constituents in complex extracts from Phlomis species has not been developed. The inhibitory process was assessed by MTT assay. According to the results (Table 2) compound 8 showed significant cytotoxic effect with an IC50 value of 18.6 ± 2.0 μM. Compounds 6 and 9 displayed moderate cytotoxic activity with the IC50 values of 35.4 ± 3.1 and 42.9 ± 3.0 μM, respectively. Meanwhile, compounds 1‒5, 7, 8, and 10 were inactive (IC50 values > 100μM).
