Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease. Patients can get this disease starting at a young all the way to when they are older. Crohn’s disease can affect any part of the digestive tract, it effects patients in different ways. Some of the symptoms that they can have is constant diarrhea, mild to severe abdominal pain, and abnormal weight loss. These are just some out of a big list of side effects that patients can get with this disease. If Crohn’s disease if taken care on time and the inflammation is not too bad then the patient can be treated fairly easily, Crohn’s cannot be cured but it can be treated with the correct medications. If the disease gets to be out of control and the inflammation is too bad then they patient might require to have surgery or be put on a very strong drug. There is a very big downfall to having these patients on such strong medications, and that is that the drugs are immunosuppressant’s which means that the patient’s immune system is suppressed and they have a higher risk of getting sick, and or getting cancer if they are on the medication for too long. Also patients that do have to receive surgery have to be on this medication for the rest of their lifetime.
