Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…

Discharge from both Lynn and Swampscott enter King’s beach at the Stony Brook outfall. This discharge includes both stormwater and wastewater. In 1991, secondary treatment of wastewater became optional in Lynn, so the wastewater that runs into the waters and sand at King’s beach is not likely to have received secondary treatment. Bacteria counts fail to meet standards for both ambient water quality and are higher than allowed for safe swimming. Further, the stream that runs across the beach is highly polluted and is often used for children for wading.…

The thing about running is that you hate it until it’s over, at least for me that’s true. Personally, I like running, and it gives me a chance to get out and work towards something. All throughout high school, I’ve run track, and for two years I ran cross-country, both are great sports. The two years I ran cross-country made me wish I ran all four years. If you’re part of more than one sport, it’s natural to choose a favorite.…

This morning was wearisome, I had to examine George Burroughs who once was minister of our village. The anger and frustration I felt towards this individual trained me. Several girls accused him being the "ring leader"of the witches, a virtual priest of the devil. I knew there was something wrong with him due to his odd religious beliefs and practices. I was so wearisome of him I moved his presence else where to a Boston jail, making my day very…

Invisible City is a documentary filmed by Hubert Davis. Following the lives of Mikey and Kendell, two youths currently situated in Regent Park’s community housing during the beginning of Toronto’s ‘Revitalization’ plan for the area in 2005. During this development of the city, Davis explores the issues that affect these adolescent boys and their mothers. My initial interpretation of the film is how well the documentary addresses the concerns around public housing. The policy in the film such as Pathways to Education is relevant to Social Welfare.…

The location has meaning, and is an essential part of the character’s lives from start to finish. In Chapter 2 of “The Urban Prospect,” the author, Mumford, address this type of phenomenon with the subject of “Planning for the Phases of Life.” Paraphrasing the chapter, neighborhoods need to plan and provide for each life stage, from early childhood, through adulthood, and into one’s elderly years. This allows for attachment to the neighborhood and the formation of social bonds throughout one’s lifespan…

I live in the “ghetto,” or at least that’s the notion I received when I first moved into my neighborhood. The houses are old and it’s never quiet, I sleep with my sister in a small bedroom, getting up early every morning and seeing the drunken people from last night’s parties. The challenges I faced on a daily bases was the low income me and my family had to survive on. My parents worked day and night just to get food on the table and pay the bills. I knew that this wasn’t the life I wanted.…

After all the struggling, the bad times, today it might finally be over. Yesterday I was scavenging around Weston Street today to find any supplies worth taking. Weston Street is the most dangerous location of New Junction City if that’s even possible. It’s dominated by various gangs and groups who only looked out for themselves. I had heard what keeps them in power was this thing called “Magic”.…

Where are you from? I am from a town that had been frozen over from the rage and wrath of a sorcerer. We live on land completely surrounded by a wide river; which we needed in order to travel and fish. The green grass of summer withered and died to a dull brown color, before it was covered by a dusting of snow. It was fun at first, at least for the children in the town.…
