Personal Narrative: What I Learned To Write Myself

Decent Essays
I always liked to write it down what comes to my mind. Short or long doesn’t matter since no one is going to read I just wrote let my pen or pencil to meet with the paper and let my words line up on the paper first left to right then up to down. It has been a long time, I didn’t write for myself. Yeah sure, for myself not for the course work! Even though beginning of the semester, I promised or hoped to write down here for only myself to keep a journal of my journey in a new state. At least, now, I am with some heavy thoughts in my mind ready to discharge it by writing down.
I am not sure with the exact reasons to feel heavy headed. I don’t exactly feeling hang over from last night when was the first Halloween party of mine! Or another reason

All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

This is just meant to give me a rough idea of what I am going to talk about. After the outlining I begin to type my first draft. This is typically a long, painstaking process for me. Unless I have a very strict and short deadline, my writing process begins with thinking and reading about the topic or subject matter of my paper. I don’t do a structured free writing or idea mapping session, but rather just read a bit to get familiar with the subject matter and to get my brain thinking about the subject. Once I am ready to begin writing. I start with the thesis statement is on the topic, is formatted correctly, and matches the purpose of the essay.…

My writing process usually involves me prewriting, planning, drafting and then editing. I often try to revise the paper while I’m writing it, which often seems to create more problems as I stop my thought process on what I was writing and focus on something else. While this has slowed me down, it has never stopped me from finishing something. I have always had an easy time writing in an environment where I don’t have any tight restrictions and can write freely about ideas for characters, stories, and worlds. I usually have trouble coming up with the right words when I’m required to write about very specific topics or ideas.…

During this semester, I have drastically changed as a writer. Either from how I write or my process of writing. Some of the best advice I got this year was from our conference over the literacy narrative. When you recommended using multiple shorter sentences rather than have my paper full of long and run on sentences. In my first essay, I wrote, “My grandpa is a hardcore conservative, born and raised in Alabama, spent most of his life there, also serving in the military, while he is now an overweight eighty-year-old man who doesn’t look a day over sixty, despite his grey hair.”.…

Who doesn’t struggle with writing? I know I always have struggled with writing, for the longest time I didn’t even really understand the differences in sentences, and it is something that’s still confuses me a little bit. To be completely honest I sometimes procrastinate longer than I should when it comes to writing, so I don’t always review the finished product the way I should. Life gets in the way occasionally, and I attempt to convince myself that I have plenty of time to finish they assignment. This particularly gave me problems in high school.…

Over the course of this semester, I have learned an abundance of things about myself as a writer. The first, and utmost important concept that I learned was that is acceptable to make mistakes. I felt with this discovery, I liberated myself as a writer, making the entire process seem less intimidating. The second most important idea that I learned was that nothing is ever perfect. There is always room for improvement somewhere.…

My journal is a place where I can be open with my thoughts. Having never done a journal in a class before, I assumed at the beginning of the semester this was going to be just another monotonous assignment. After a couple classes, the daily journal grew on me. My journal allows me to think through the items we discuss in class and flush out all of my analysis. More specifically, I constantly related items we learned in class to real life situations that I am facing.…

This past March, I was choosing my classes for my freshman year of high school. My mother and I were looking over the courses offered for first-year students at the high school, when we saw that all students are required to complete a writing course while they attended Bedford High School. There were three options for how I could attend the course. I could take the course; in school during the summer, in school during the school year, or online during the summer. After talking to current high school students and hearing a presentation from guidance counselors, I knew that I should take the class in the summer, so I could take an extra elective and not be stuck with as much homework during the school year.…
