Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My Class

Decent Essays
As I entered the class on the first day, I was thinking “I hope to God that I don’t blunder in this class.” Mostly for the reason that I was atrocious at composing essays due to my poor grammar and transition so my goal was to advance on my writing skills. Then the professor came in and she looked like a courteous person overall. I was overwhelmed however on what was to be expected to get done and what was to supersede in the class. Especially with the three absent rule. It all calmed down after the first month for me, but there was a lot to get done.
The first essay I didn’t do an exceptional job on. I knew that I needed aid and fast. The second one was a curve because I got my roommate to guide me with revising my paper and I took her ideas

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

At the beginning of this semester I was extremely nervous to be taking a writing class. Growing up I was never a strong writer. However, throughout this course I believe I have become a better writer. This change in my write can be attributed to the different assignments throughout the course. I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

I learn the best when I am actually interested in the subject and when there is nothing distracting me paying close attention to what I need to know. I dont really learn by writing things down because I dont study so I dont look back at things I have written. Listening to hear is actually one of the ways I learn best because I do not like reading things I prefer listening to them for a better visualization. Visualizing things also helps a lot because sometimes picturing things in your head its easier to learn as well in my opinion. In class I work in the middle because its never fast or too slow when I work fast its because I feel the urge to finish as fast as possible and when I work slow its because I am not in the mood or I dont understand the work.…

At the start of the English 1A semester there a couple of things that I seemed to struggle with. First was I hadn’t written much of anything at all since high school had ended for me nearly four years ago, though I do try to keep a personal journal and loved writing poetry growing up. Between work, a dog, maintaining social activities and the daily hassles of life, writing quickly became an old past time. So, when sitting in class on my first day and being told to freewrite about anything, I froze not remembering how to just write though I am a girl who normally has plenty to say.…

Heather, Thanks for support and reassurance on the aspect of what pattern I choose to organize my paper. I am one to always second guess my decisions, so thanks. I think if there are to many “patter of organization” being use it pulls from the “heart” of what is being written. I think I did this a lot in the past before this class because I just didn’t have really any idea of how to format or organize my thoughts to go on paper. This class was awesome for me, I have learned so much.…

Throughout my entire life, I have encountered, had conversations with, and have been given advice by many great people. The best advice given to me although was by my dad when I was in the tenth grade, be yourself. I was being bullied in school because I was not like everyone else. I didn't skip class with the "cool kids", talk disrespectfully to any adults, I was smaller than all of the other freshman and football players, and I was never getting into trouble like everyone else. After my entire freshman year of being bullied, I brought it upon myself in the tenth grade to try and change some things about myself.…

This year, Latin was hard, and for a student, hard often means that they did not like the class. My experience could not be further from this common belief. I absolutely loved my time in Advanced Latin II, and it made me enjoy Latin for the first time since seventh grade. Eighth grade Latin was bad. We have certainly alluded to it in class, but we have never truly expressed the terribleness of 2015-2016 Latin I and Ib.…

Before beginning this assignment I thought I knew exactly what was going to happen in the twenty-four hour period. I was going to keep my phone on me as a clock only, so I was not late to any of my lectures, I was going to carry a sketchbook around with me all day, and the only difference between that day and any other day was going to be that I would not be texting anyone or checking my e-mail all day. However, I was later proved completely wrong and that day was nothing like I thought it would be. I did carry a sketchbook with me all day and I sketched Geisel library, Conrad Prebys Music Center and the sunset over the cliffs.…

When I started this semester and got into this class for the first time, I was scared that I wouldn’t get a decent grade because my writing skills were not where they should have been at the time. Although my struggles with learning English, my professor took a different approach that no other English teacher/professor has done before and it worked. She explained things in ways I understood as my knowledge started to grow. I have taken a lot of time to get to the point I am at now, but one things for certain I am ready to move to English 1105 and face the challenges that await.…

Development Scared, nervous, and unhappy would describe how I felt about taking a college English class. English was my most dreaded subject, and always has been simply because there is not always a right answer. I like to think and view things as black and white, but English is full of digging through the grey. Never the less I walked into my first day of English 101 dreading what was to come, however I left with an open mind.…
