A cold, dark night. A rainy, frightening night. A terrifying, sad night. Edward Rivers stepped out of his carriage and into the shadow of the Lowood School. “Go”, he told the carriage driver.…
Tendrils of frozen air grabbed at my skin; loose strands of hair sliced at my face. My family didn’t believe I had it in me. “You? Running? That’s a good one.”…
She immediately called the police, but when she did, the pleasant sounding woman said there was too much crime in Detroit right now for the police to help her, and that she would have to wait. It was incredibly puzzling to her that all the police in Detroit was gone. Eventually she just accepted it. Then, she moved her bed to the center of the room so if anything came from any direction she could run away from it, or at least attempt to. She waited about fifteen minutes until she came up with a solution to the problem.…

It had become a cool crisp night in the set of the winter cold. They were on the journey for an adventurous camping trip in Nebraska. Randy and Jeff had just awakened from their nightly slumber and were ready to carry on their adventure to Nebraska. They were staying in a local Super 8 motel and were eating breakfast when they heard there was a traitorous snow storm charging their way. They started to look at their map and found a new route to their destination.…
The stage of a hero's journey I associate with to the most is stage five. I associate with this because I meet new people every day and some turn out to be a whole lot friendlier than others. As a result of this, I have made numerous allies and enemies throughout the years. One example is that in second grade I was transferred to another class along with two other girls. Those two girls ended up being my best friends for six years.…
It was December 20th, 2015. I had no idea what that day was going to bring. I owned a horse named Nevaeh that year. She was very naughty and we travel all over to do shows for people.…
Breast cancer is a very common and deadly disease. The medical field is looking for minimally invasive ways to diagnose breast cancer, to increase the number of patients that are willing to get checked. One technique that can be used to determine whether a tumor is malignant, is called fine needle aspiration (FNA). It is a biopsy technique that requires no surgery. The data that FNA provides is much more difficult to analyze than a regular biopsy, and the trends in the data are difficult to spot.…
I had just woken up when I suddenly got a phone call from my parents, saying that my cousin William was coming over to Vancouver. Though I was tired and drowsy, the moment I heard that William was coming to visit, my eyes lit up. I hadn’t seen him for over five years, and though he could be annoying, he was my role model. He influenced me to become the selfless and courageous person I am today. When I received the phone call I still on my field trip in New York.…
Joseph Campbell, the creator of the hero’s journey, did a lot of research on ancient mythology. He discovered that many heroes travel the same paths to becoming a hero. Campbell decided that heroes come across many challenges that are put into stages and in those stages the hero grows closer to the reward at the end. I am definitely not a hero, but my journey of finding Christ and giving my life to him has absolutely made me into a better person overall. As I look at my journey of finding Christ, I see that it has many similarities to Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.…
I had been walking for hours. Mother and Father did not know I was leaving. I did not understand why they yelled at me for such a petty reason. There was so much wrong with discovering. If I wanted to to become an explorer, I shall be one!…
The doctor would cut a small piece of tissue, if needed, and put the tissue under a microscope to fully see if the tissue is or is not healthy. This is called a biopsy. The goal of treatment is to completely remove the cancer and prevent the specific cancer or cancers from spreading to different parts of the body. (National Institutes of health, 09 September, 2015) In 1990, therapy was surgically directed.…
About 20% of biopsies result in a diagnosis of breast cancer and the remaining 80% represent a false alarm. (“Digital,” 2009) Many times depending on how extensive the cancer is a lumpectomy or mastectomy is performed. A lumpectomy is where a portion of the breast is removed. A mastectomy is where the entire affected breast is removed.…
I met with my client in his foster home in the living room. I attempted to diminish all possible distractions so he could be focus in the interview. I started by developing rapport with the client. I asked him a question “Adrian who is your favorite superhero?” he quickly jump with excitement and began telling me all about his favorite hero “Spider-man.”…
It was getting colder by the hour and what seemed to be a small forest turned into an enduring hike. Everyone was exhausted you could see the nervousness and wary in their eyes. There was this unusual eery silence no one seemed to talk, the only thing you could hear was the crunching of the leaves underneath our worn-out feet and the chirping and howling of the creatures of the night that the autumn wind threw our way. I took a deep breath in , inhaling the bitter medicine from my inhaler, this was my fifth puff in the past hour and it wasn't really helping, my lungs were slowly tightening.…
