May Anderson’s first time at the Tulsa downtown courthouse, she was guilty for not making a complete stop at a red light intersection. She had just left her friend’s house after realizing she had been placed under the judge. When the judge called her name she quotes “I felt shocked as my heart began racing”. Her mind state was not in reality, but stud as though she didn’t know how to react nor respond in this situation. There was no one in court by her side, no friends or family. Most of all she felt as though she had let my daughter down with disappointment. Being judge inside a courtroom made me feel embarrassed and ashamed of what I had always planned to become. Although, she tried hard to keep her strength to not let this situation put her down towards her future. It still becomes a small effect on her emotionally. She never would have imagined her self sitting inside a court room in the wrong over traffic tickets. She knows now everybody can make a mistake and no one is perfect, because this was very scary for her. “Being in jail is not a place for no one, a place I will not return to”. She stated.
Meanwhile, she began to shut down and think about how serious her life and decisions matter to someone so small and precious in this world. Since, her parents took her child in while she was incarcerated; it made things better for her emotionally. They have always been a big part of her life and have never left her side she knew her child was safe and would be ok.
