As I looked through the old videotapes on my shelf, my eyes fixated on one tape that wasn’t labeled like the rest of them were. I pulled it off the shelf, popped it in the tape player, and leaned back on my couch. Play. The tape started off with younger me running around a grass field attempting to kick a soccer ball further than a couple of inches. Day and night, I devoted my free time to get better at soccer. Thus, improving my kicks, accuracy, speed, stamina, and strength. I was never capable to kick a ball further than 20 feet so I created strategies to help me build strength on my legs. For example, in my back yard I would stand a few feet away from the brick, aim to a certain brick I’d like to kick the ball to, if I hit the brick I then would step a few steps back and repeat. I practiced for about 6 months straight after the season was over; I was determined to make it to varsity my junior year.…

The roar of the engine sends my heart racing as I pull out on to the track, one lap around and we are off, trucks at my side as we glide around the turns. The slick dirt pulling my back end around I move my hands, my automatic controls, the only thing keeping me from spinning out.
