Roderigo and Iago are engaged in an argument. Roderigo has been paying Iago to sabotage Othello and Desdemona’s’ marriage. Roderigo longs to be with Desdemona but Othello stands in his way. Roderigo has just heard of the marriage and is upset with Iago because has not seen any progress in his sabotage. Iago assures Roderigo that he hates Othello because he was well qualified for a promotion but he gave the promotion of lieutenant to Cassio who was not qualified. Iago says he only follows Othello to turn against him. Iago tells Roderigo to call upon Desdemona’s father to further the process of sabotage. Roderigo calls for Brabantio, as Iago yells that thieves have robbed him. Brabantio thinks they are crazy and doesn’t believe them at first. Brabantio has already told Roderigo to stay away from his daughter and thinks he is just making a cry out just to see her. Iago then says, “Your daughter and Moor are now making the beast with two backs” meaning that Othello and Desdemona are having sex. This upsets Barbantio, he calls upon his servants and he begins to search for his daughter. He learns of her marriage from Roderigo and becomes
