Things Fall Apart Tragic Hero A tragic hero is a character who makes bad decisions that end up destroying them. In things Fall Apart Okonkwo shows us how he a tragic hero. He has both a good and bad personality. Okonkwo is a hard working man but he’s also a short tempered person. “His fame rested on his personal achievements”. Okonkwo worked hard to get to the level that he’s on. Okonkwo was a loving man though.“Enzima is dying, came her voice and all the tragedy and sorrow of her life were packed in those words, Okonkwo sprang from his bed, pushed back the door and ran into Ekwefi’s hut”. As he thought something was wrong with his daughter he got there and helped her. Okonkwo had a great personality, but he also had a bad one too. For example, “He had a slight stammer and whenever he was angry and could not get his words out quickly enough, he would use his fists.” That shows how quick he got mad and it also shows how quickly he took his …show more content…
“He was poor and his wife and children had barely enough to eat. People laughed at him because he was a loafer”.When Okonkwo was a kid his dad always made him look poor because he was a debtor. Okonkwo did not respect his father and whenever he saw him in himself he always got mad because he didn’t want to be anything like his dad. Okonkwo also went on a journey. He ended up getting exiled for accidentally shooting a boy in Umuofia and all he could do was leave the village. “Okonkwo was well received by his mother's kinsmen in Mbanta”. He ended up spending several years there. Eventually he came to a self realization that he was wrong. He killed a man when others said not to, “In a flash Okonkwo drew his machete and it descended twice and the mans head laid beside his uniformed body”.When Okonkwo realized he was wrong he felt very bad about what he did. “They came to a tree from which his body was dangling and they stopped.” Okonkwo couldn’t deal with it anymore so he commited
