Not So Normal Childhood “If she pushed the needle not even an inch farther, she would have bled out in seconds.” My childhood growing up was different from others, causing me to grow up faster. My mom’s attention was directed almost always towards my sister, who has a mental disorder. My childhood growing up was different from others. First off, I am a twin and we both seemed like healthy, little girls. It was not always that way, until 2nd grade rolled around. Something was off about my sister, Alyssa. My mom took her to the doctors and they ran some tests. They soon diagnosed her with Autism, which is a mental disorder causing her to have a rough time interacting and learn. She kept saying that she stuck needles inside of her stomach. We thought she was just lying because previous to this, she did have a needle in her arm but that was by accident. We thought she was just doing it to get the attention she had received before. Sooner or later, Alyssa had to get an xray to see if there was actually needles inside of her. After they took her x ray, what did you see? Two needles sitting on the inside of her from where she pushed them in. Not just one, but two. They decided that they were too far pushed down, they couldn’t remove them right there. So they scheduled a day for surgery up in …show more content…
She was going to have surgery this day, and so my mom needed to be there. But I went about my normal day while all of this was going on. I woke up, got myself ready for school, and then woke Bristal up to get her ready for daycare. I once again, turned out to be the fashion police, the breakfast maker, teeth and hair brusher and making sure she had everything she needed before we left the house. I put her in her car seat and then dropped her off at daycare. I then went about my regular day at school. Once school got out, I had to pick Bristal up by 5 from daycare and bring her home. Then I fed her and did our nightly routine. I then went about my homework and my nightly routine before I went to bed. But before I go to bed, I put Bristal in bed with me, so that she isn’t sleeping
