The eminent scholar and author Warren G. Bennis once said, “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality." A vision embodies people’s highest values and aspirations. It inspires people to reach for what is possible and calm their fears of current realities. Though highly effective leadership is difficult to achieve, I am always learning and improving my abilities and skills. Currently, the nonprofit sector faces many challenges, from federal budget cuts to regulatory change.…
While most people believe that non-profit are doing great public work, these organizations are often contributing to the increase of elitism and capitalist forms through corporate influence. Non-profit industrial complex (NPIC) is as a “set of symbolic relationships that link political and financial technologies of state and owning class control with surveillance over public political ideology, including and especially emergent progressive and leftist social movement” (Smith 8). This simply means that NPIC offers a space where corporations can control and authorize social justice movements through their financial support. It permits public monies to fall in the control of private corporation through foundations. The nonprofit industrial complex…
The difference between a non-for-profit organisation is that, for-profit is a financial benefit that is used to pay expenses like costs and taxes needed to sustain the organisation and any profit that is gained goes to the organisation owners, and they make the decision about suspending it on the organisation or not. However, non-for-profit is a type of organisation that does not earn any profits for its owners and examples are charities, and other types of public service…

Healthcare and business can often times be a delicate subject. How do I feel personally regarding the business of healthcare, and should healthcare be profitable or not? The healthcare field is comprised of three different sectors: nonprofit, for profit, and government owned facilities. I think one must consider the nature of the healthcare industry before a fixed determination can be made and if that particular sector should be profitable or non profitable. Nonprofit organizations play a vital role in the delivery of healthcare in the United States.…
Today, many non-profit organizations mistakenly assumed that their employees and volunteers wouldn’t steal from them. Several organizations have been misguided in setting up controls with regards to safeguarding funds. Many non-profit organizations become breeding ground of fraudulent activities because of this lax control (Yetman, 2008) Implementing and monitoring good internal control management will help to guarantee that nonprofit organization reach their objectives, for example by providing services to the community professionally, while utilizing resources efficiently, minimizing and reduce the risk of fraud, mismanagement or error (Morehead, 2007).…
In relations to organizations there are two that exist, a business firm and a nonprofit. Business firms are privately owned to serve customers in order to earn profits. Nonprofit organizations are not governmental and cater to customers for reasons other than funds. Having a strategy is most important for industries; its purpose to serve long term while delivering distinctive experiences from competitors and achieving set goals. There are three levels of structure:…
Non-profit organizations are groups organized by volunteer citizens at the local and international level. The non-profit organization types are advocacy NGOs that promote interests of those who cannot access them, operational NGOs that provide products and services to the poor and the hybrid types of NGOs that provide advocacy and operational assistance (Allard & Martinez, 2008). It was founded in 1950 by Bob Pierce and works according to evangelical convictions and within a theological framework. World Vision is active in 97 countries, being inspired by Christian values they have…
There are vast amounts of research on the benefits of collaborating with nonprofits, especially in the public sector. Eikenberry and Kluver (2004) find that public managers can play a significant role in enhancing nonprofit organizations’ ability to add to society by supporting collaborative and cooperative efforts among nonprofit organizations rather than promoting competition (Eikenberry & Kluver, 2004). When nonprofit organizations work together, they empower themselves to retain their unique values, focus on service and advocacy, and maintain civic involvement (Semel, 2000). Eikenberry & Kluver use the City of Omaha’s Continuum of Care for the Homeless as an example of how public managers can play a role in assembling collaborative efforts. Initiated by the Omaha City Planning Department, this cooperative effort connects local public and nonprofit housing and support service providers to form an effective and accountable Continuum of Care (Eikenberry & Kluver, 2004).…
Financial Difference between For Profit and Non- Profit Organization When an entrepreneur wants to start a business he or she has a wide range of decisions to make before beginning. One of the basic or first decision is if the business is for profit or non- profit organization. A profit organization priority goal is to make a profit while non- profit is a business whose priority is rendering services to the community, such as food, health, shelter, education and environmental needs. However, is does not imply that a non-profit organization does not make a profit. These two organizations have similarities and differences.…
According to the constraints of the old system that I mentioned above as well as the conversation with Mr. Bailey earlier, he wishes to completely abandon the outdated Microsoft based infrastructure due to technical issues and the cost to maintain it. Therefore, I will propose a fully cloud based solution for Catholic Charities. It is Google Apps for Work. Because Catholic Charities is a nonprofit organization, Google has a program that offers all the features I will mention below at no cost. You can visit this link to see Google Nonprofits program eligibility requirements as well as application form.…
More often than not, there is a conceptualization that Public Relations is synonymous to Marketing or the other way around. Although most companies use both hand in hand towards progress, some are in more need of one over the other. The most basic difference of public relations (PR) and marketing is the other is more profit-oriented while the other is, in most senses, not. Though the strategies and tactics could be used for both sides, the goal is very much different. Marketing sells the product (“Marketing”, n.d.) while PR sells the company (“Introduction to Public Relations”, n.d.).…
