Infections have now become of the major cause of degrading health conditions, mostly in the hospitals and clinics. This is because the risk of infection is quite high in these places and the level of exposure is also broader. Being a professional nurse, I am well aware of the possible cause, level of threat and the way of reducing infections. The current discussion will help in identifying the reasons that ignites the risk of infection along with some possible ways and methods by which the level of those risks could be reduced and managed.
NANDA International is a professional organization of nurses that helps in defining, categorizing, standardizing and refining various medical and health conditions so as to provide adequate healthcare facility. It was previously known as the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association. It was officially founded in 1982 with an aim to provide nursing diagnostics and supporting the profession in the most appropriate manner. NANDA International was launched in the year 2002 and supported the research work in the form of articles and publications in the field of nursing.

In terms of nursing diagnosis, the risk of infection is defined as "the state in which an individual is at risk to be invaded by an opportunistic or pathogenic agent (virus, fungus, bacteria, protozoa, or other parasite) from endogenous or exogenous sources" and was approved by NANDA in 1986. The risk of infection could be from any kind of pathogen and the level of infection might also very form patient to patient, based on the type of infection. According to the nursing diagnosis, elevated risk and the control measures of the extra type of infections are also included in the NANDA International nursing
