Swot Analysis

The main purpose of creating a SWOT analysis is to put together a framework of where exactly one excels in his/her versus where s/he needs improvement and the potential opportunities that come with all of these traits. By creating my own SWOT analysis, I was able to organize my thoughts and see clearly on paper what the exact strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats are that I possess. As we had discussed in class, strengths and weaknesses are internal characteristics that affect the way we approach different situation and problems, whereas opportunities and threats are external forces that we may have no control over but may also be influenced by our strengths and weaknesses. It was difficult to distinguish my unique strengths compared to my Notre Dame peers because we all have many strengths in common. Being able to attend one of the best universities in the country and receiving a top quality education are just two of the things that we all share. However when I thought of myself compared to all of the other college sophomores interested in the accounting field, my education is a great strength that sets me apart. Other strengths that I gathered were the fact that I am double majoring in Accounting and Applied Math; this will provide me with a greater expansion of knowledge as well as skills that others may not possess in the workplace. My time management, planning, and organizational skills also stood out to me based on the fact that I am able to maintain a relatively high GPA while also being involved in a number of different activities. My shyness at networking events may prevent me from building relationships with future employers; likewise, those potential relationships are then taken by my more extraverted peers who are able to engage in those conversations easier than I can. Overcommitting myself to activities also poses the threat of wearing me down, causing me to lose motivation in my school work. Low motivation in turn can negatively impact my GPA because of a few test grades, which would also weaken my credentials compared to my peers.
