Food is essential to human life; it is also something we constantly take for granted. Growing up on a farm, I realized that getting the food out of the ground and to our plates is a complicated process. When I began thinking about the career I desired in life I knew I wanted to be able to support agriculture in whatever I chose. I decided I wanted to be a lobbyist; someone who would lobby on behalf of farmers’ interests and the agricultural industry as a whole. I plan on majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Political Science to help prepare me for a career in lobbying.…
1 I come from a long line of educators and administrators on both sides of my family. Various relatives of mine have taught me to understand and appreciate the importance of education. This being the case, they have inspired my decision to be a teacher, preferably an elementary school teacher. Last year, I sat in on my aunt’s third grade class at Washington Irving, an elementary school in my district that I attended for three years. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love.…
One of my primary, short-term educational goals is to complete my Bachelors of Science in Communications degree with the emphasis in mass media and broadcasting. Completing my studies within the shortest timeframe possible will afford me the opportunity to save both time and finances, as well as pursue my second short-term aspiration of obtaining my Master of Science in Human Services degree with the emphasis on family and community services from Kaplan University. I have operated in the capacity of a pastor and community leader, coupled with my occupation in the field of behavioral health for over 15 years and it has exposed me to some very unique cultures and environments. This combination of hands on experience exposed me to situations; such as but no limited to, uninhibited living conditions, dysfunctional family dynamics, abusive conditions ranging from mild to unthinkable and unheard of customs people have adopted as a way of living. My involvement in their lives lead me to want to be more efficient in my role of engagement concerning their reality so in 2009, I challenged myself to seek ways to…

I am taking this class because I’m interested to learn more about Asian American health issues. Before taking this class, I didn’t know Asian Americans had genetic health problems. Family members who have died, have died from a genocide, natural causes, or a car accident. I’ve always been healthy my entire body which may be unsurprising because I’m young.…

I choose the early child hood field to better myself as a teacher and to get a better understanding of how a child’s mind work. Growing up I always wanted to became a teacher and open up my own daycare center. One of my career goals is to make sure my center is built and able to meet the needs of all children. This includes children who suffer with a disability or disorder. There is not many centers who have the resources or staff willing to help a child who suffer with developmental issues.…

When people think of a good teacher they think of one that is nice, encouraging, trusting, and many other adjectives. Unlike most people, who change their mind on the career they want, I knew from the start that I wanted to be a teacher. I have many goals I hope to achieve when I am a teacher for example, making class a fun and exciting environment for the students and have them look forward to coming to class. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was young because I had a teacher that I had a close relationship with and made me love school. Ever since I had her as a teacher I knew that I wanted to be like her and teach like she did.…
Education is the key to success. This slogan is said multiple times throughout our lifetimes, and the reason for that being is that it is found to be true. I believe education to be the most important thing in my life and plan on continuing my education in a postsecondary institution. People have different reasons for continuing their education. My primary reason for continuing my education is I want to learn new things and keep abreast to changes. Another big concern of mine is that new ideas and solutions to problems are discovered every day through technology. Being that I am closing in on 50 in a couple years, the things I have learned have become out dated. So in order to be successful at anything people have to stay abreast of the things going on around them.…
I am also on the debate team which will give me experience thinking on my feet. At some point during my time here at Berea College, I plan on interning somewhere in DC.
