When I turned one we moved from our condo to our house today in Chatham Borough. Our neighborhood is a dead end street located on the edge of Chatham Borough. Since I live on a dead end it was the perfect area for me and other neighbors to play in since our parents didn’t have to worry about a busy street. In addition to our cozy neighborhood we have a very spacious backyard which was perfect for me to run around in when I was little. My parents had a playground built for me and even bought me a bouncey house the fill up the yard. My backyard is where every year I had my annual 4th of July birthday party/ barbecue. Each year my Aunt Helen would bake me a cake with whatever I wanted on it. When I was one I had elmo, and ages 2 and 3 I had princesses,

Ten years ago summers for the children of Bushwick promised many things. Some things nostalgic; Puerto Rican Day parades, celebrations of American and Dominican Independence days, cookouts on the sidewalk, people watching on the once-deteriorating stoops, hip hop pulsing through passing car’s speakers, cherry-flavored piraguas, bathing in the refreshing cold water spewing from open fire hydrants. Some things, such as rampant gang violence and the sounds of police helicopters circling the neighborhood, are not as favorably remembered. However negative the image of the barrio may be, the Latino community undoubtedly carved their culture deep into these spaces. The sense of neighborhood that the predominantly Latino population created is in the…

They wanted a little bit more rustic feel to camping but none of us really had any actual camping gear so we just opted for the lake house. Everything was going smooth until it hit about six-ish, that’s when everything just seemed to get a little bit more stressful. When, at the store, we got everything a girl could ask for and then some, we got brownies, chips, stuff to make milkshakes, ect.…
