A role-model is someone looked to by others who should set an example for others to follow. Mr. Keating, a new English teacher with unorthodox methods of teaching, demonstrates this in the movie when he influences his students to make the best of their time on this Earth. Mr. Keating used poetry in a way to make his students express his thoughts. For example, Mr. Keating completely changed the way Todd Andersen, a new and shy student with academic pressure from his brother’s reputation, carried himself. When Mr. Keating makes Todd close his eyes, Todd expresses his thoughts through poetry. For the first time in the entire movie, Todd was able to voice his thoughts without any reluctance to turn back. To add on, Mr. Keating’s teachings and influences help push Neil Perry and Knox Overstreet to do what they believe in. Neil had a hidden passion to acting, however, he didn’t pursue it because of his dad’s view of him. Because of Mr. Keating’s positive influence on him, he pursued what he had a passion for. People continuously learn from the ideas, actions, and beliefs from other people. The influence of role models in my life is present too, since they teach me some lessons that are essential to my life. My role models show me how to run my life and teach me how to act. My beliefs, my values, and my actions are all based on how the people around me act. It is very hard to live your whole life based on only what you believe. That is why the presence of role-models is so significant in my life. Two of the role-models in my life is my life are my parents. They discipline me to show me what’s right and what’s wrong. They taught me to carry myself civilly, rather than acting boundless. The influence of role-models has changed my life for the better.
