Primarily, the features that are emphasized throughout chapters three and twelve are migration and dietary practices. With regards to globalization, it’s mentioned that there are external factors beyond the control of individuals, such as shifts in power to distributors of food instead of the producers (Helman, 2007). Globalization has a crucial impact on global diet, and sets the foundation for understanding immigration in the context of health and culture. Migration is the most crucial aspect of globalization, since it spreads different practices, beliefs, traditions, values, and ideas (Helman, 2007). Many people migrate searching for better work, living standards, education, health care and a brighter future for their offspring. However, some people are forced to migrate due to tragedies or wars, known as involuntary migrants. These includes refugees, asylum seekers, IDPs, returnees, and stateless persons. Due to the circumstances of the situation, migrants may either be permanent or temporary. As mentioned in the text, refugees may never return home is they are persecuted in their country or migrants may return home if the conflict subsides (Helman, 2007). Another form of migration is static migration, where an individual migrates throughout social class instead of to a different physical location. Tourism and health professionals are also significant in the money aspect of migration. Health professionals are migrating from poorer countries to richer countries for interest in better profit, and the phenomenon of people migrating temporarily for relaxation is a multimillion dollar global industry (Helman, 2007). As Helman(2007) explains, Migration isn’t simply restricted to people. The idea of migration also involves the spread of religions, cuisines, information, healing systems, medicine, and many other forms. The migration of drugs, organs, food, microorganisms, weapons and jobs allow the communication of ideas to be more efficient in
