Introduction
The number of adults over the age of 65 in the United States has drastically increased in the last few decades. In 1970, 9.8% of the United States population was 65 and older, in 2010 13%, and by 2030 more than 20% of the United States population is projected to be 65 years of age and older (Ortman, Velkoff, & Hogan, 2014). Consequently, the problems and challenges of aging are an important societal concern.
