Western countries, where thinness is presented as an important social value, there is a large number of women suffering from disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and binge eating.
“According to National Eating Disorders Association (2005), approximately 10 million females and 1 million males in the United States are suffering from anorexia and bulimia while 25 million more are struggling with binge eating disorder”. This is a clear and convincing example that media has much to do in eating disorders of society in general. One of the methods most known is dieting and it can be defined as the attempt to lose weight by avoiding eating dessert foods harmful to the human body. The excessive character in the diet can lead to the development of eating disorders since severe weight loss is the main symptom of
