Certification means that a facility needs to complete certain programs and steps in order to receive a licensed in long term care. The department of health and senior services is responsible for certifying long-term care facilities, keeping them informed of any kind of changes and new regulations that need to be performed. If these facilities do not past its laws and regulations they can’t be certified or licensed and can’t operate a long-term care unit. Being licensed in a long term care is necessary for the facility as well as the administration well as the staff that needs to be licensed.

A licensed nursing home administrator oversees a staff that must follow the rules and regulations. A CNA or certified nursing assistant has to go thru training program; these programs teach a CNA the skills to work in a long term care facility with a licensed nurse’s supervision. There is also CMT or certified medical technician who can assist a licensed practical nurse or a registered professional nurse.
However, all of the staff needs to be licensed and or certified in order to work in a long-term care facility. Principles that should guide long term care are always doing what’s right for the patient. Don't harm or hurt any resident during treatment or any other daily care. The treatments should benefit the well-being of the patient, no kind of treatment that will make the patient suffer.
Don’t talk about a patient no matter how difficult they may be, keep all information confidential and only give out to health care authorities and family members. Also, don’t forget the patient has the right to refuse a treatment if it’s hurting them, and they are allowed to know what’s going on do what’s right for the patient. Keep the doctor informed with any changes in the patients care or health, the doctor needs to keep the patients confidence and that special relationship that develops between patient and doctor, keep that trust going.
