Conventional wisdom has it that the Roman Empire consisted of what would now be known as Western Europe. The Romans and the Carthaginians had their first of three consecutive battles in 264 BC, which was known as the Punic wars. In the end, around 146 BC the Romans came out on top, finally defeating the Carthaginians. However during the second Punic war the Romans lost a few important battles, the most important being the battle against Carthaginians general Hannibal. Which is a military campaign designed to obtain a specific goal in a foreign country. In this case crusades were in charge of the recapturing of Palestine also known as the Holy Land. The Crusades- the Quest for Jerusalem began in November of 1095. The crusades began a war against the Turks who were known as “an accursed race”. An accursed race was a race completely estranged from God. The Roman Empire passed down the Byzantine Empire and more specified identified as the Biblical Holy Lands to the Roman Christian Empire, which had later on fallen to Arab- Muslim control in 638.
