Would you rather send a 12 year old through horrific pain to prepare him for his job or help a kid have fun and be unprepared for her job? This was a decision the title character in Lois Lowry’s The Giver had to make in order to train a successor. The Giver trained Jonas differently after his failure to train Rosemary. This was a much better method because Jonas got pain earlier, he received physical not just emotional pain, and the Giver stayed distant from Jonas.…

In the movie, there were much more technologically advanced devices, but in the book the technology was more timeless. People probably enjoyed seeing all of the advancements, but I personally find the technology in the book version better because it is more timeless. You could read the book in twenty years and the book would still have that dystopian quality, but the movie will later become outdated. It may also be argued that the movie was better because there was a specific antagonist, the Chief Elder. The Chief Elder was totally against the memories returning to the community and was trying to do everything in her power to stop that from happening.…

In The Giver by Lois Lowry, the transfer of memories are significantly diverse to the way we are accustomed to. The process of how memories are transmitted between The Giver and The Receiver of Memory, Jonas, proves this polarity greatly. Some of which is evidently portrayed in the novel through a combination of genetic, spiritual, technological, and magical processes. For example, Jonas’s genetical composition plays a significant role in the transfer of memories since this can be comprehended as The Chief Elder states that Jonas has, “...the Capacity to See Beyond ” (Lowry 63). This proves that he was born with a supernatural ability to receive memories, unlike others.…
