Using 2017 as an example, conflict has risen around the globe because of a difference of opinion and stubbornness of people. It has shown by a big conflict through religion like the Sunni vs Shia conflict or something smaller like getting into a fight in a bar because the other guy is cheering for the other team. Second of all in Adventures of Huck Fin , Huck clearly doesn’t agree with his dad’s opinions on black people and thinks that Jim is a better man than his a father but, in chapter 16 of Adventures of Huck Fin , “men in a boat approach Huck asking to search his raft for runaway slaves but, Huck lies and says my family is down there with smallpox instead of turning Jim in.” Huck was angry at himself for not turning Jim in when the men asked because that’s his obligation in society. Grades don’t show intelligence, they cannot determine how great a person’s future is going to be, but adults and teachers tell students you need a good GPA to get into a big university to make a lot of money. In Adventures of Huck Fin, Twain is trying to get the audience uncomfortable through the use of Huck by having Huck stay with Jim throughout their journey knowing that he is going against what society believes in. This connects seamlessly to 2017 with the social dogma of going to a big university right after high school. In today’s society parents, teachers, and school counselors all talk to students about their GPA so they’ll get accepted into a University to make more money. In reality, there are so many more options to choose from than just going to college right after high school, but going to college right away is what is people have been saying to do since elementary school. Twain is trying to poke at the society in the 1800’s by showing that there are multiple ways to do things and mind sets to have and that being stuck in that one frame mind set with whatever society is doing is how to get trapped. 100
