What are the evidence of international co-operation and evidences used to support the value of Avogadro’s hypothesis (numer)?
What is a hypothesis? It is a proposed explanation for a phenomenon, which can be described as ‘provisional'. However, a hypothesis cannot be identified as a prediction; it is a priority for it to allow people to make predictions of experiments that can be tested. If the results from this experiment are coherent with the prediction made from hypothesis, they support the hypothesis as being an excellent evidence and explanation, resulting hypothesis to be accepted as a theory. Avogadro’s constant can be an example, and it can fully demonstrate how evidences can make a hypothesis …show more content…
This statement was completely contradicting to what John Dalton believed, since Dalton believed atoms were held by electrical force; when same atoms held together, they will repel. Therefore it was impossible to have an idea of having diatomic elements, such as O2. Thus, Avogadro’s hypothesis was completed neglected from the society until Josef Loschmidt emerged to the world of chemistry. In 1865, Josef Loschmidt, an Australian chemist and physicist, first estimated the actual number of particles in a given amount of a substance. He used kinetic molecular theory- Theory that can be used to explain Avogadro’s hypothesis. This quantity is known as the Loschmidt constant, which is 2.68767773 X 1025 m-3. The number was only twice larger than the true size. His method allowed remaining scientists to relate the size of any gas molecule to measurable phenomena, and to realize how many molecules there are in a given volume of gas. A French physicist, Jean Baptiste Perrin initiated of using the term ‘Avogadro’s number.’ In 1909, He proposed an estimate of Avogadro’s number based on Brownian motion. Using the fact that microscopic particles suspended in a liquid or a have random movements, he identified the number of particles in a given amount of volume without using a specific modern …show more content…
The most reliable and probable set of physical constants, which can be applied to numerable self-consistent data, is then found by statistical methods. The size of Avogadro’s number can be determined by the definition of the mole. It shows how small an atom is compared to the mass or volume of material in our environment, because the definition of mole includes the mass or volume of material that we feel familiar with. In conclusion, from this research, we can find out ‘skepticism’ is the main tool for scientists in order to make improvements of an extremely fundamental idea. From unexplainable amount of effort and time consuming, scientists throughout the world were and are making evidences in order to explain and improve a hypothesis. As the example of Avogadro’s number (hypothesis) demonstrates, there are international co-operation and continuous curiosity is needed to make a scientific value more
