Woloch’s article argues, “The French Revolution brought France into opposition with much of Europe. The revolution left the French people in extreme disagreement about the best form of government for their country. The revolution created the long-lasting foundations for a unified state, a strong central government, and a free society dominated by the middle-class and the landowners.” Napoleon is foundational to this sense of nationalism that continues to grow. As a result, civilians are empowered to declare their own government, fight against a monarch, and create a society suitable to their needs and requirements. Everyone strives for freedom, and many will fight for those freedoms, subsequently leading to the spread of democracies world-wide
