A chemical dependency could start at any age. It could affect from adolescents to old adults. The substance abuse could start with a simple idea of a cigarette or the influence of a friend to try an illicit drug. It could begin with a zip of alcohol on a Friday night socializing with friends, a person looking for pleasure in a medication, or an old adult with difficulty sleeping looking for a better night to sleep with a prescribe medication. Unfortunately, the effect on a person could be devastating. A person who abuse smoking, he/she increases each day the amount of cigarettes that they need. They always smell of cigars. The person around them reduce the time that expend with them because of being afraid of a second hand smoke or because of the bad smell in their clothes. A person, who drinks and become aggressive after a couple of cups, reduces the amount of money on their pockets and the amount of friends that prefer to prevent a conflict with a usually drunk person. As a personal experience the abuser sold his mother’s entire furniture inside the house to obtain money. The abuser can cause them to lose their friends and even families because they could harm either themselves or others a result of the body’s reaction to the need of the drug. They could start stealing cars or even houses to look for a way to pay what they need or what their body is looking for. Unfortunately, these people end up leaving on the streets, as homeless people even though they have their families who will love to help them alleviate that problem. Most of them go to jail as a result of their behavior and could end up living in Assisted Living Facilities to help them with their treatments and assisted them in returning as much as possible to their regular daily
