When Napoleon III ruled France from 1848 to 1870, France underwent rapid economic growth because of the Industrial Revolution and Napoleon III’s involvement in this revolution. Napoleon III modernized France by building railroads, canals, and banking institutions. This helped centralized France’s capital and created a strong unified state, which made France one of the big powers of Europe. Napoleon III, like Napoleon I, wanted to make France the best country in Europe, and so because of this, he stepped up to the throne and bean reforming France immediately. And in 1860, Napoleon III introduced free trade with other nations which strengthened France’s economy. Napoleon III’s main goal was to rebuild, modernize, and strengthen France, in order to create a strong centralized state. Napoleon III did centralize and strengthen France but it did not last long, because like Napoleon I, he engaged France in many wars, like The Crimean War in 1854, The Sardinia and Austria-Hungary War in 1859, The Mexican involvement in 1862, and The Franco-Prussian War in 1870, which led to his downfall.
