The Civil War was a war that split our country apart. The South called themselves the Confederates, and the North called themselves the Union. The South fought for their economy, which was slave based and the North fought to end slavery because it was inhumane. Albert Messenger faced the war with hope that he would survive after being in 31 battles over 3 years. He survived the war and his experience was a very intense and a scary story.
Albert Messenger was born in 1832, in Norwich, Vermont. Albert had 4 sisters and 4 brothers and grew up on a farm. His siblings were: Harriet Messenger 16, George Messenger 15, Delight H. Messenger 13, Charles Messenger 10, Franklin Messenger 8, Sarah A. Messenger 7, Charlotte Messenger 5, and Nelson Messenger,
