According to Hockenbury, Clark Hull discovered the drive reduction theory which is a type of motivational theory that motivates one to perform an action in order to reduce one of our physiological needs so we can maintain homeostasis (Hockenbury & Hockenbury). The Drive Reduction theory affects Stuart when he is on his trip looking for Margalo and has to stop by some place so he can buy a drink to quench his thirst. Stuart is driven to find a place that has a drink so he can reduce his desire for a drink. This then helps Stuart go back to homeostasis since his physiological need was met. Figure and ground can be seen in the picture which states that what your eye goes to, is the figure, while the ground is everything else you do not really focus on. For example, in this picture the figure is the superintendent and the ground is his surroundings. Proximity is also seen in the image since you can see how close Stuart and the superintendent are in the picture. Depth cues are also utilized when looking at the picture since it allows us to process the image. Looking at the picture with one eye allows us to just see the two dimension that the picture contains but looking at it with both lets us perceive the three dimensions that the picture were to have if it was in front of us. For example, perceiving the depth of the image allows us to see that the superintendent is sitting on the curb while Stuart passes by him. If we were looking at it with just monocular cues, we would just see the guy sitting down but not perceive it as the curb. The picture that I selected can be perceived by other people as if he is upset or worried about something and thinking about it. Other people may interpret the picture in that way since his facial expressions give off that idea. Other people may also believe that Stuart is causing him to look that way since Stuart is talking to him as he feels and looks
