About an hour after the airport explosions, Khalid El Bakraoui, a Brussels-born 27-year-old, detonated a suicide bomb on the Brussels subway/Metro station at the end of rush hour. The bomber, whom Van Leeuw said was identified by his fingerprints, was in the second car of a train at the Maelbeek metro station (Hume). This took place over a few hours. This had the entire city scared and threatened. The citizens of the city were told to stay indoors and not leave their homes. This was a tragic event for multiple reasons. One is because that city has not been known for crime or outrageous events like this one. What was a normally calm and touristy city was destroyed after this event. Another reason this was an extremely tragic event is because it was known worldwide. As soon as it happened, it wasn’t just covered in the news in Paris, it was being broadcasted around the world.
