Substantially, human dignity lies at the heart of this history, and it is paramount to ensuring the sustainable history of humankind. According to Loewen, through history, students can investigate aspects of existence that have stayed the same along with those that have distorted over time. They can identify continuities and changes as well as similarities and differences focusing on the particular event. On the other hand, Herbert Kohl supports this claim that sustainable history challenges the existing concepts of civilizations. He further argues that human civilization should not be thought of as consisting of numerous separate as well as competing civilizations but to a certain extent it should be thought of collectively as only one human civilization.
