A study was conducted in a Central Texas Veteran Care System in Texas on hospital rooms that had MRSA patients in them or patient’s that had previously had MRSA. Some patients were in contact isolation (68 rooms); therefore, healthcare workers had to wear gowns and gloves while in the rooms as well as practice hand hygiene, while other were in a noncontact room (32 rooms). Five surfaces (call button, bedrail, tray table, bathroom handrail, and toilet seat) were sampled in each room after the patient was discharged but before disinfection of the room could occur. Plates were made, incubated, and then MRSA colonies were counted. 202 MRSA colonies were identified in noncontact rooms and 1,830 were analyzed in contact isolation rooms (5). Therefore, keeping the patient’s room clean during their stay is very important so that the infection can decrease. For example, individuals can help keep their room clean by making sure their bedding is washed often. Also, it is essential to clean each room thoroughly after patients are discharged to prevent the infection from spreading from patient and patient. Caring for the patient’s room can help decrease the spread of MRSA in
