Instead she fell in “love” with another man in which she ran off, leaving behind Hosea and the children. But this affair did not last, for the man left Gomer and she eventually sold herself into slavery, her lowest point in life. Hearing of Gomer’s condition Hosea came to her rescue. He bought her out of slavery and restored her to a respectable wife and mother. This was God’s final test for Hosea, to prove that even with all of Gomer’s selfish behavior and sinful ways that he could love her so much to save her from slavery and restore her to being his wife. That is an example of the unconditional love the Lord has for us and the power of forgiving. Without forgiveness the marriage between Hosea and Gomer would not have lasted, but most importantly the relationship between God and man would not have lasted. Without God’s forgiveness the people of Israel would have all been condemned and chastised for their sins, for no man nor woman is
